Born in Fort Wayne, Indiana, Abby surprised her parents at the age of five by playing every Christmas song ever known on a plastic toy organ. She enrolled in piano lessons locally and soon studied piano with Julliard graduate Judith Petersen. She won local and state competitions, and earned a Bachelor of Music degree in piano performance. She then earned Master degree with High Distinction in Piano Performance with the renowned Toradze Piano Studio at Indiana University in South Bend. She taught piano as adjunct faculty while studying under concert pianists Ketevan Badridze and Alexander Toradze.
Abby then relocated to Nashville, TN and joined the piano faculty at Belmont University School of Music. In addition to teaching she studied songwriting and learned music recording and production techniques. She also enrolled in graduate school to add additional credits to her M.M. degree in piano performance, in the field of Kodály music education. She accepted a teaching position and relocated to Montrose, Colorado in 2007. Soon after meeting her husband, they moved to the nation's highest incorporated town, Leadville, Colorado (over 10,000 feet altitude!) This was the beginning of production music, and a first deal with a music library.
Following this was another relocation, this time to the coast of Connecticut. During her time here she met Art and Robyn Munson, the founders of MusicLibraryReport.com. Inspired and encouraged she has continued to build her catalogue, and also recorded her first full solo piano album at Firehouse12 Studio in New Haven, CT.
Relocating often, production music has allowed Abby to continue creating music regardless of the location. Most recently she moved to the Midwest, and is sorely missing the Italian food of the East Coast.
“Abigail Mettry is the most gifted musician I know. On multiple occasions, she has produced some of the most exquisitely beautiful music I have ever heard. I cannot think of enough superlatives to describe Abigail's talent. Simply put, her music is transcendent. Whatever she sets her hands and heart to will be superb!”
